FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Red at CMCA: Alan Fishman on Mark Rothko
Rockport, Maine, February 12, 2014: The Everyman Rep will present a short talk on Mark Rothko's painting by Alan Fishman, prior to its February 22 performance of John Logan’s play Red, about the painter. Alan, a distinguished painter in his own right, now lives in Belfast and teaches at the Waterfall Center for the Arts. He is a Professor Emeritus of the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC, where he was a full professor from 1967 to 1996.
Born and raised in New York City, Alan has been an artist for more than forty years. He received a BFA from Cornell University, with further study and years of residence in Italy. His works are continually exhibited in group and solo exhibitions, and can be found in many collections around the world.
Speaking of his talk, Alan commented: "You know, the play isn't an Agatha Christie whodunnit, but it follows very closely Rothko's life during the period depicted and I wanted to make sure I didn't give the game away when talking about his commission for the Four Seasons Restaurant, so I had to choose my words carefully."
The talk is brought to you with the help of the Maine Arts Commission and the Maine Humanities Council. After the next day’s performance, on Sunday 23, we will present our Q&A session, giving audiences their chance to describe the effect the play had on them to the actors, directors, designers and crew who produced it, as well as ask questions about the process.
Presented at CMCA on Russell Street in Rockport, tickets for Red are available at www.everymanrep.org or by calling 207.236.0173, as well as at the following retail venues: Owl and Turtle and HAVII in Camden, the Reading Corner, Rockland, and Bella Books, Belfast. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. CMCA members receive $5 off the adult ticket prices. Student tickets are available at $10. The show will be presented on 15, 16, 22, 23 February and 1 and 2 March. Saturday shows are at 7pm, Sunday matinees at 2.30pm.
